Drink up and eat up, witches!

Love Buzz returns with their brunch of the month with a magical twist for Halloween. The pink neon fluorescent lights, pink walls, and pink décor offer an empowering feminine ambience to the cocktail bar. Getting in to the Halloween spirit with lanterns, black candles, miniature skulls, and engraved tombstones the bar got ready for their Hocus Pocus themed brunch. What better way to enhance female empowerment than with the Sanderson sisters?

The Hocus Pocus sister trio made an appearance during a drag queen performance. Three drag queens from The Flaming Marys’ Cabaret, a local LGBT+ underground alternative act, performed musical numbers from the 1993 Halloween classic, Hocus Pocus. During the performance, customers had a variety of food and witch potions (drinks) to choose from. The Sanderson Sister Sandwich and Go to Hell witch potion were just some of the menu options that set the ghoulish mood. Some other options were the Thackery Binx Burger, Lucky Rat Tail Margarita, and Mary Sanderson Potion.

Destini Pena, social media manager, bar manager, and bartender of Love Buzz shares how the pink frenzied bar started their journey and how it continues.

“We just wanted a place that was different with a twist,” Pena said. The downtown McAllen bar has been opened since February 2018, and continues to attract new and returning customers. Walking into Love Buzz, one can expect to feel the uplifting and liberating environment.

“With ‘love’ in the bar’s name, one would think red and pink and hearts,” Pena continued. Customers have a visual experience and see love incorporated in their pink mixed drinks, pink street tacos, and pink telephone booths. From the customers’ buzzing energy and loud 90s music, one can not only see, but feel the love.

“We always try to give our customers what they want. We always try to please them.”

Inspiration for the brunches come from pop culture trends. The bar strives to go beyond to keep brunches both energetic and nostalgic. When it comes to planning themed events, Love Buzz never fails to come up with crowd-pleasing ideas. Some of their Brunch tributes have been towards singer-songwriters such Britney Spears for their “It’s Britney, Brunch!” event. They have hosted other thematic brunches such as Breakfast at Tiffany’s and Clueless.

“We try to go for popular themes incorporated towards girly movies and shows.” Pena shared.

With Thanksgiving coming up, Love Buzz will be hosting a Friends themed “F.R.I.E.N.D.S.G.I.V.I.N.G” brunch on Sunday, Nov. 17 at noon, where there will be a Friends inspired food and drink menu, music, references, and a “brunch” of fun!
