Photo Series: Charro Days with UTRGV
Charro Days is a multi-day cultural festival celebrated in Brownsville and Matamoros. It originated in 1937 to strengthen ties between the neighboring cities and celebrate their shared heritage. It typically occurs in late February or early March. The festivities include parades, music, dance, food and charreadas. A charreada is a traditional Mexican rodeo that showcases the skills and techniques of charros, Mexican cowboys. On Feb. 28, UTRGV hosted its annual Charreada and invited the Vaqueros y Charros Unidos for a presentation of dancing horses, La Lexxion to perform huapangos and Mariachi 7 Leguas for a musical performance.
