Nuri- Fusion Street Kitchen, an autonomous market, and Southern Rose Coffee, are the new flavors UTRGV will be offering on different campuses this Spring semester.

In Edinburg, Nuri-Fusion Street  Kitchen has made its way from McAllen to UTRGV’s Community Corner.

“The community corner is meant to bridge UTRGV Dining services operations with the local community,” said Roberto Cantu, executive director of Business Auxiliary Services.

According to Cantu, before Nuri-Fusion Street Kitchen moved to the Student Union, no burgers were offered at the community corner.

“[UTRGV Auxiliary Services] is  excited to have something different, something that normally our student population wouldn’t be exposed to,” he said.

Gabriel F., co-owner of Nuri-Fusion Street Kitchen, described the restaurant as a scratch kitchen that blends Korean, Mexican and American flavors.

“We wanted to expose UTRGV to a different type of restaurant that’s in the Valley, that maybe [students] haven’t heard of,” said the co-owner of Nuri-Fusion Street Kitchen.

Their menu consists of breakfast tacos made of flour and corn tortillas, smash burgers, quesadillas, kitchen tenders known as “yard birds,” and kimchi fries.

When asked about Nuri’s price range, the co-owner said they’re really accessible to students.

Nuri’s breakfast tacos are $2.95, and the smash burger with fries, quesadilla with chips, and yard birds with fries combos, which students can add a drink to, range from $10.50 to $11.50.

“Good quality chicken, I rated a 7.5 out of 10,” said Mario Hinojosa, a UTRGV civil engineering junior.

UTRGV’s Community Corner is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Mondays to Fridays.

In Brownsville, Southern Rose Coffee has made official their relocation from the Brownsville Student Union Lawn to inside El Comedor.

Cantu said a self-serve coffee machine was moved out of the way, and a counter was put in place to serve as the new location for the coffee shop.

“We moved them inside to better serve our local student population,” he said.

Southern Rose Coffee offers a variety of beverages, such as hot tea, americano, and strawberry matcha.

In a recent Facebook comment, Nicole Garcia, co-owner of Southern Rose Coffee mentioned that as of next week, brownies, toasted bagels and macaroons will be offered.

“[Southern Rose Coffee Shop] prices are pretty good, and they have a lot of variety in coffee and drinks,” said Juan Marquez, a UTRGV junior.

Pulse tried to schedule an interview with the owners of Southern Rose Coffee, but they were unavailable as of the publication of this article.

The coffee shop is open from 8: 30 a.m. to 4 p.m. from Mondays to Thursdays.

An autonomous market inside the Clinical Education Building in the Harlingen campus opened its doors on Jan.6.

“[The market] has frozen food, refrigerated food, lots of beverages, chips, most of the things you would find in a market,” said Cantu.

With the purpose of fast serving students in the Harlingen campus, the autonomous market has a point sale system that’s for self-checkout.

“[UTRGV Dining] is excited about better serving our university community, specifically our students and trying to find exciting, delicious, and nutritious solutions for our students on all campuses,” said Cantu.
