Go touch grass – visit Camp McAllen!
On July 22, McAllen opened to the public a new park, Camp McAllen, with 20+ acres of outdoor adventure.
“The beauty of Camp McAllen is that a lot of people in our community will no longer have to travel… four or five hours away to go up north to get a camping experience. They can literally get to experience the same, outdoor adventures right in their backyard here in McAllen,” said Marlene Calderon, superintendent of outdoor recreation.
With no entrance fee, Camp McAllen offers hiking, catch-and-release fishing, and kayaking. There is equipment available for rent and a concession stand.
In the Fall season, there are plans for archery lessons for all ages, as well as kayaking classes and fishing lessons for kids. You can check for future plans coming in the Spring and Summer seasons by visiting their website.
