The UTRGV Men’s basketball team honed their skills in preparation for the upcoming season
on Nov. 1 at the UTRGV fieldhouse in Edinburg. The athletes participated in a variety of drills involving shooting, rebounding and fastbreak transitions.
Before the players and coaching staff entered the gym, the atmosphere of the facility was silent, like the calm before a storm. The energy shifted quickly as the team members began to roll in. Music blasting, whistles blowing and shoes squeaking against the gym floor are some of the sounds one would hear at the UTRGV Men’s basketball practice.
The practice took place three days before their first game of the season against the Nebraska Cornhuskers. The men lost 87 – 67. They then played the Creighton Bluejays two days later and lost 99 – 86.
On Sunday the men played their first home game of the season and came out victorious against Champion Christian College blowing out the Tigers 110-60.
The Vaquero’s next game will be Friday where they will face the Charleston Southern Buccaneers.
