UTRGV celebrated its 10-year anniversary celebration Thursday with one of the biggest events held by the university bringing bands, rides and activities to Vaqueros.

The event was put together by student activities. Raul Leal, program coordinator for Student Activities, said the 10 year anniversary is a big accomplishment for the institution.

“This event is our way of showcasing that history,” headded, “We had these really giant video boards showing images from the past ten years, even before that, just to kinda honor our legacy and build that future.”

Eryssa Quintanilla, a mechanical engineering graduate student, said this event was encouraging and made her want to get involved.

She explained, “Some people won’t get involved in sport activities but coming here it’s not that. You get out of class and it’s been a long day. You have to get re-energized, and stuff like this helps.”

The event had live music. One of the more notable bands that played that night was SM6 , a pop rock indie band consisting of six siblings.

“I’m waiting for my people to start circulating in, and I’m excited for the live music that’s why I’m sitting so close.” Gadson said.

The event wouldn’t be possible without the help of the students who helped put it together and worked it.

Angeline Martinez, an integrated health science junior, who also works at the student union at the info desk, said working this event has helped her come out of her shell.

She added, “I like seeing how the students get to experience this.”
