The Vaqueros lost their homecoming game against Lamar University Cardinals. The Vaqueros delivered a final score of 52-23, adding another loss since their last game against the University of Incarnate Word on Oct. 17.

This is the Vaqueros sixth game and their fourth loss in the Southland Conference(SLC).

Head coach Travis Bush said he knew the Vaqueros would have to play really well and have things go their way in order to win the game.

Despite their loss to Lamar, Bush said they played their tails off and gave Lamar credit for their win.

“Credit to them, they’re a good ball club and they beat us tonight. You know we didn’t match up well with them in some areas and give them credit,” he said.

Saturday’s game was the continuation of the tradition that began last year of Homecoming taking place at a football game.

Before the start of the new tradition last year, Homecoming was typically held in the Spring semester at the Vaquero Basketball games.

Catalina Ramirez, a biomedical junior, Valeria Delgado, an accounting junior, Kevin Flores, an accounting junior and Gregorio Zuniga, a music education senior, were awarded homecoming royals during Saturday’s game.

Ramirez said she was surprised and wasn’t sure she’d win.

“I wanted to take a chance; I wanted to just put myself out there and just do it. I am very happy,” she said.

Flores said he expected to win, but his main reason for running was to help students.

“I always try to listen to the students. No matter what, I always try to help,” he said. “The second best feeling in the world is helping people.”

Although the vaqueros were low in points, the student section weren’t lacking in their vaquero pride and Halloween spirit.

Madison Lara, an English senior, said she really enjoyed the game, especially since it landed on Halloween.

“It’s super fun, actually. I like seeing everyone in costume. I saw so many people dressed up. It’s super cute,” Lara said.

The next game for the Vaqueros will be against Northwestern State at 1 p.m. at the Turpin Stadium in Natchitoches, Louisiana.
