The University Recreation Center at Brownsville will offer Vaqueros an afternoon showcasing wellness activities starting noon Wednesday.

According to Gilberto Lopez, program coordinator of the University Recreation Center in Brownsville, Spring into Wellness is their annual health fair hosted for students to take advantage of what the BUREKhas to offer and promote wellness.

This time, the BUREK is making this event different from the previous health fairs. Lopez shared how this time, aside from a tabling section and wellness screenings, they will add a relaxation station.

“We’re doing manicures, they’re going to be hairstylists and we’re also going to be having some chair massages,” the program coordinator said. “There’s going to be a dietician giving a presentation about how to read labels and we’re also having a section with our activities and group fitness classes.”

Aside from these activities, Vaqueros will also be able to enjoy free coffee provided by Southern Rose Coffee. Free t-shirts and food will also be given to students at the event.

“[The Recreation Center] wants to highlight the eight dimensions of wellness and so what we try to do is bring different community and campus partners to highlight that,” Lopez said. “We want to make sure that our student population takes advantage of some of the services that we’re offering.”

Spring into Wellness will be taking place from noon to 3 p.m. Wednesday at the BUREK. For more information visit the V Link event page.
